Vals in Switzerland is a small ski resort with just 5 ski lifts (1 chair lift, 4 surface lifts) but it does boast a very impressive 1964 metres (6443 feet) of vertical descent. Vals has 8 pistes with a total length of 25 kilometers (16 miles). There are 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) of cross country ski trails at Vals. The nearest airport is at Bern.

Just a quick clarification:
The nearest Airport to get to Vals is not Bern. It is Zurich. Anybody flying in from a foreign country would most likely arrive at Zurich. From there, one will have excellent train service with the last leg being a yellow Swiss Postal bus.
The same would be true for many other of the nearby ski areas of eastern Switzerland.
