Sollereck (Oberstdorf-Söllereck) is the name of the little skiing area just above Oberstdorf on the road up through Kornau to Kleinwalsertal. It's pretty small and basic, a couple of restaurants with one main gondola and a few drag lifts. These are covered in the Oberstdorf lift pass but I believe you can get them separately should you wish. Free parking is at the bottom and there is a bus from Oberstdorf.
The gondola leads you up to a blue piste with a few slight deviations off the side. It's pleasant enough: about 2 km long and not challenging - a good place for beginners to practise and that seems to be what goes on there. However, and this is worth knowing; at the top if you start descending the piste and then take a right at the top you will see the top of a long drag lift coming up through the trees. Head down there and you will find two lovely red pistes snaking down through the said trees. In February this year (2012) there was fantastic snow cover; piles of deep off to the sides and no-one there... only drawback being a slow two kilometer drag back up. But then a chair would make it busier.
Be aware also that when wind and heavy snowfall makes the Nebelhorn and Kleinwalsertal areas shut (as it did in February - the Arlberg was cut off!), the lower altitude and trees of the Sollereck keep it open and hence everyone in the know descends on it.
All in all, nice for a quick warm-up or to get your ski legs back before going up the road to Kanzelwand or Fellhorn. Shame it's not linked.
