Castle Mountain's Powder Stagecoach (CATSKIING) in the New Haig Terrain is one of the only lift assisted skiing operations in the west, offers some of the driest powder conditions in Canada, and warm temperatures of -5C to -11C on average for winter. Castle Powder Stagecoach offers about 17,000 feet to 20,000 feet of vertical per day (on a good day) and we have been averaging this since starting on January 28, 2010. Castle brags about some of the driest powder conditions in Western North America and on average the Powder Stagecoach area experiences powder every day of the season and this is due to the "healing process" that happens most nights of the season. This process is a result of the prevailing west winds, which move snow across the surface of the snowpack and fill in previous tracks to give the concept of new snow overnight. It does not happen every night.
The entire area is secluded and quiet for that intimate relationship with winter's miracles like the shining and starry surface hoar that appears after a clear, cold night. This snow condition is mother natures answer to summer dew and has some great skiing qualities when on the surface of the snowpack by giving music to the ears of "sssshhhhh" when skiing/boarding through this phenomena. Another one of mother natures' gifts happens close to spring when we see some of the clearest, sunny and calm days imaginable for skiing/boarding and that too is a fantastic experience, even without powder conditions.
